Mirage of Life
January 9, 2009 You do not exist.
Studies confirm this. In fact, there really is no you. There is a physical being-but controlling. it is a corrupted mind.
The corruption I speak of is the invasion of others opinions and beliefs into the thoughts-making a lasting impression on each and every one of us. Trust me, brainwashing isn't sciene fiction- it is a daily background contorting the world as we "know" it. Did you fall under the impression in high school that cheerleaders are happy, perfect, and socially elite in school? Or were you completely enraptured by the idea of a certain career choice, but end up in an entirely different field because you were assured it was easier, the better decision, more accomplished?
The answer is yes. The fact that these thoughts are likely unoriginal and false to the real you is part of our modern world.Living to be lead by others, to stop thinking for ourselves. Which is why we are in the mess we are in.
People have begun to follow- to take the "easy" way out. We know something is wrong-it is in teh news, books, the morning paper, even in the susppicious loks we give those that we are unfamiliar with.
It has been escalating, and now is the time to reverse the process. Not soon, not tomorrow-this second.
The first step and the most important, is taking back our minds. When we stop allowing "more qualified" people to direct our actions, we can begin thinking for ourselves. It comes in many forms- teachers and schools telling us which professions we may or may not choose based on standardized grades and general experiences; the fashion industry composed of a few decided on a whim what the masses will wear; even what is healthy according to the government regulated diet is often adjusted to promote money making products-such as dairy to lose weight.
We need to stop assuming we are wrong and underqualified, start thinking, researching, and quit beliving the lies laid out for us.
If I haven't yet opened your eyes to the lives we mimic-read this book:
The Giver by Lois Lowry-
It is set in a future society which is at first presented as a utopian society and gradually appears more and more dystopian; therefore, it could be considered anti-utopian. The novel follows a boy named Jonas through the twelfth year of his life. The society has eliminated pain and strife by converting to "Sameness", a plan which has also eradicated emotional depth from their lives. Jonas is selected to inherit the position of "Receiver of Memory," the person who stores all the memories of the time before Sameness, in case they are ever needed to aid in decisions that others lack the experience to make. As Jonas receives the memories from the previous receiver—the "Giver"—he discovers how shallow his community's life has become.
Once we discover what is truly our will, and what the honest needs of "the people" really are, then we can untangle ourselves from the lies served to us on the front page every morning. We can make real efforts towards a better world.
Only when your mind is clear and belonging fully to you will you be able to truly live and make a diference.
